If any one tenor can produce a reading of Schubert’s »Winterreise«, this »cycle of eerie songs« as the composer himself called it, as beautiful and dark as Schubert intended, then it’s the internationally celebrated lieder singer Ian Bostridge – on this occasion not with piano accompaniment, but in Hans Zender’s orchestral version. The Portuguese remix ensemble Casa da Música, known for its performances of world premieres, provides the instrumental backing under the baton of its conductor Peter Rundel.
